Intrusion detection system: an intrusion detection system (IDS) is a system that monitors network traffic for suspicious activity and raises an alert when such activity is found. While detecting and reporting faults is the main function, some intrusion detection systems can take action when malicious activity or abnormal traffic is found, including blocking traffic sent from suspicious IP addresses.
