Member of the teaching staff in the architecture department at Damascus University. Member of the architectural and technological design laboratory at the University of Calabria (Italy). Research fellow at the Shattuck Centre at the American University in Budapest, CEU (Hungary). Over the past nineteen years, working on interdisciplinary questions such as urban development, the rehabilitation of historic Islamic cities, and parametric and algorithmic architecture. Led a team preparing detailed master plans dealing with informal settlements, expansion and industrial areas in Damascus and Aleppo between 2006 and 2012. Co-founder of the Diwan office for engineering consultancy in Aleppo. Headed the team supervising the building of the new industrial city (Al-Bilyaramoun) in Aleppo from 2010 to 2013. Holds a European doctorate in architectural design from the University of Calabria and the University of Nürtingen (Germany), a PhD in urban planning from Turin Polytechnic (Italy), a master's degree in planning and environment from Al-Baath University, a bachelor's degree in architecture and a diploma in urban planning from Aleppo University. His research interests are in biologically inspired design solutions for complex adaptive systems emerging through artificial intelligence techniques; he developed an innovative evolutionary technique for filling the destroyed urban gaps in Aleppo. Taught courses in urban and architectural design at many Syrian and European universities from 2006 to 2024. Took part in many international conferences and published and reviewed papers in Arabic and English.
